I consider the JB Systems Rotogobo Outdoor to be a really good outdoor gobo projector in its price range. I have tested the Rotogobo myself and compared it with other projectors.
I was particularly impressed by the optical performance. For an outdoor projector of this class, it delivers a surprisingly good and, above all, usefully sharp projection. This is a particularly important factor for me when it comes to logos, lettering and more detailed gobos. The projection can be focused cleanly and still looks good even from a slightly greater distance.
The 100 W LED delivers good light output for this class of device. Of course, there are even more powerful projectors available, but for typical outdoor applications, the RotoGobo’s brightness is perfectly adequate. The size of the area to be illuminated and the distance to the projection surface are, of course, also crucial factors here.
However, there is a slight drawback when changing the gobo: to insert or change the gobo, the front part of the housing must be opened or unscrewed. This is slightly more cumbersome than with projectors where the gobo can be changed more easily from the outside. If different gobos are to be used frequently, this point should be taken into account when making a selection.
Otherwise, the RotoGobo is delightfully straightforward to use. As it offers few additional functions apart from gobo rotation, the unit remains straightforward and easy to set up. For many outdoor applications, this is precisely the advantage: insert the gobo, align the projector, adjust the focus and you’re ready to go.
For me, the JB Systems RotoGobo Outdoor is a very good and straightforward outdoor gobo projector, particularly when a sharp projection, a robust IP65 design and simple operation are required.
I see its main strengths as its good optics and straightforward handling. The slightly more time-consuming gobo change is, for me, the device’s biggest drawback, but this is hardly an issue in installations where a single gobo is used for an extended period.
My recommendation: Anyone looking for a reliable outdoor gobo projector who doesn’t need to change gobos constantly will find the RotoGobo Outdoor to be, in my view, a very impressive piece of kit.
